Common Signs & Symptoms

Narcolepsy has several distinct symptoms ....

  • Cataplexy: A sudden decrease in muscle tone while awake which is the same decrease that is experienced during REM sleep.

  • Hypnagogic or hypnopompic hallucinations: Experiencing vivid visual images or sounds while either falling asleep or waking up.

  • Sleep paralysis: Occurs when a person is waking, the person cannot move or speak for a brief period of time.

Treatments exist to successfully manage this disorder.
